Public Health Agency of Canada

In a crisis, The Public Health Agency of Canada relied on us to deliver a functional vaccine distribution portal. We responded by applying our best practices, UX knowledge, and product design skills to a rapid-pace delivery to ensure Canadians had quick access to vaccinations.

This digital product needed a compelling message, an easy way for Public Health centers to order vaccines, and an easy way for Public Health Agency Administrators to track and confirm delivery. This product also needed to follow established Canadian government style guides and website toolkit components with a high need for mobile-friendly interfaces.

Research

Due to the timeline constraints of this project, research was limited to content reviews and SME interviews. We also conducted two stakeholder workshops to discuss priority features and potential pain points in the distribution process. We then prepared a user flow to ensure the steps for each user type were thought through before bringing the product to life.

Design Process

Our design process was significantly accelerated for this project to meet the quick turnaround and development of the platform. We designed in high fidelity and used many visual components from previous government work that met the Canada.gc.ca style guide and WET component guidelines.

Conclusion

The vaccine distribution portal project was a crucial effort to provide quick access to vaccinations for Canadians during a crisis. By applying our UX knowledge and product design skills at a rapid pace, we were able to deliver a functional portal that met the specific needs of both Public Health centers and agency administrators.

The resulting portal was designed with a compelling message, an easy ordering process for Public Health centers, and a simple tracking and confirmation system for administrators. In addition, we were able to ensure that the portal followed established Canadian government style guides and website toolkit components, including a focus on mobile-friendliness.

Overall, this project demonstrates the importance of responsive and user-centered design in crisis situations and the value of having a skilled UX team in place to effectively address the needs of users and stakeholders.
