Curious About Code
We were the lead designers on this project and worked with a marketing specialist, art director, and a developer from Cult Ideas to bring this app to reality. Our role was branding,
logo design, UX design, and UI design.
This project drew upon the curiosity of youth to get engaged with code but also needed to be accessible and useable for adults. Therefore, the app and website focused on a clean
aesthetic and intuitive interface.
We liked the idea of a mascot as the central component of the visual brand, which brought us to hint at the lovable monkey from the eighties, Curious George.

Research
The marketing strategist lead the research and environmental scan process which provided user-centric perspectives about the competitive code training apps on the market. Gleaning over this information, we developed use case scenarios that informed three unique user journeys. Following these materials, we developed wireframes and a prototype that was user tested to validate our assumptions before we developed the final UI and user flow of the website and app.
Design Process
We approached this design process by identifying priority functions and key indicators in the UX workshop. We followed a sprint approach for each feature running through wireframes to prototype and then moving to the next feature. Each sprint was about two weeks. After the sprints, we put together a visual language and style guide as an atomic design system documentation.
Conclusion
The app and website project was a successful effort to bring coding education to a wide audience, including both youth and adults. As the lead designers on the project, we played a crucial role in establishing the branding, logo design, UX design, and UI design.
Our focus on a clean aesthetic and intuitive interface helped to make the app and website accessible and user-friendly for all users. The decision to incorporate a mascot, inspired by the lovable monkey Curious George, added a playful and engaging element to the visual brand.
Overall, this project demonstrates the value of a well-designed and user-friendly app and website in facilitating learning and engaging users of all ages.
